Our vision to contribute to Bangladesh by exporting $100 million business by 2025- Mofazzal Hosen Pavel Managing Director of Dongyi Sourcing LimitedOne of the visionary entrepreneurs Mofazzal Hosen Pavel Managing Director of Dongyi Sourcing Limited shared about the recent scenario of RMG sector & sourcing strength of DSL with Team Denim Focus.

Denim Focus: How do you see the recent scenario of Bangladesh RMG sector?

Mofazzal Hosen Pavel: Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest Readymade Garment (RMG) exporter, just behind China. The country’s 84% of exports come from the RMG sector, and the textile and apparel sector contributes around 11% to Bangladesh’s GDP. It direct employs around 4 million people in the country and is the major driving force of the country’s economy. It plays a significant role in transforming the monetary structure of developing nations.

This RMG sector exported highest around $34 billion in 2019 where we had a vision to reach $50billion within year-2030 but due to pandemic export has come down around 20%-25%. RMG sector in Bangladesh is fighting to survive during covid-19 but I see the more potential new business for us from Myanmar and China. Year-2021 would be more challenging for us as most of exporting countries’ retail shops were closed and still, they are. Due to fewer demand customers have reduced their buying budget and reduced-order drastically which has impacted export growth.

Denim Focus: What was your observation during Covid-19 pandemic situation?

Mofazzal Hosen Pavel : According to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), international buyers have either canceled or suspended $3.16 billion worth of shipments involving 1,142 factories affecting 2.26 million workers as on mid of last year.

We thought a good growth of exporting in 2021 comparing the last year-2020 but 2nd wave of covid-19 is even stronger and smashed all initial plan. We are still hopeful to overcome as most of buying countries’ s retail shops are being opened.

Although 2nd wave of Covid-19 more deadly but also my opinion to try to keep open our RMG industries by maintaining maximum safety measures during Covid-19 to sustain in the competitive market as our competitor’s countries are serving customers throughout Covid-19.

Denim Focus:  Dongyi Sourcing already passed 1 year, what types of products are you sourcing from Bangladesh?

Mofazzal Hosen Pavel: Our vision to provide 100% sustainable products by 2025 to customers. We have already started our sustainable journey by providing 100% organic cotton jeans, trousers. Denim jean with the sustainable wash, Sweater with Recycle polyester, Acrylic, 100% organic cotton T-shirt, and so on.
