MK SONS DENIM RESEARCH Debuts at Kingpins Amsterdam with a Clear Message: WE UNDERSTAND DENIM

Seven years ago, a very specific question began to take shape inside MK SONS: could the industrial discipline of an established garment manufacturer be combined with the depth of knowledge, curiosity and product judgment normally associated with a specialist denim development studio? That question became the starting point for MK SONS Denim Research — a new proposition for the denim industry that rethinks how denim is developed, made and brought to market — debuting at Kingpins Amsterdam on 14–15 October 2026 (Green Area, T).

Created within the MK SONS group and developed over several years, Denim Research is the group’s specialist denim development and manufacturing practice: a place where fabric, fit, wash, construction, chemistry, wear and commercial viability are considered together, before a garment moves into industrial production.

Its premise is straightforward: the quality of a garment is determined long before it reaches a sewing machine.

At MK SONS Denim Research, development is therefore not treated as an intermediate step between design and manufacturing. It is the discipline that connects the two. The objective is deceptively simple: make better decisions before production begins, reduce unnecessary development risk, and then reproduce those decisions consistently at an industrial scale. That means knowing which fabric will support a particular wash. Understanding when a fit needs another iteration. Testing rather than assuming. Validating a finish before committing to volume. And, sometimes, knowing when an idea should not proceed at all.

Because exceptional denim begins with judgment

This is also where the relationship between MK SONS and MK SONS DENIM RESEARCH becomes distinctive. Denim Research operates as a focused development and manufacturing platform within the broader MK SONS manufacturing organisation. It benefits from the freedom to approach denim as a specialist discipline while remaining directly connected to the broader industrial infrastructure that can support it as needed.

The result is intended to bridge a gap that denim brands know well: the gap between highly sophisticated product development and commercially realistic manufacturing. Specialist development can be exceptional but difficult to scale. Large-scale manufacturing can be efficient but too often begins only after the most important product decisions have already been made. MK SONS Denim Research is designed to bring those two worlds together.

A denim development and manufacturing house with extended, industrial capabilities behind it.

For brands, that means access to serious development capability without losing sight of price architecture, repeatability, delivery discipline and production economics.

For designers, it means a partner capable of discussing denim in the language of fabrics, washes, fit and construction—not simply minimums, capacity and lead times. And for product teams, it means the possibility of developing better denim without automatically pushing the product into an unrealistic cost bracket. The ambition is not simply to manufacture jeans for brands. It is to earn a place as the first call designers, product developers, and sourcing teams make before developing their next denim line. A place where we observe, question, develop, test, validate, and make an idea.

A place where manufacturing starts with understanding. MK SONS Denim Research. We understand denim.
