Desk Report: Mostafiz Uddin, the managing director of Denim Expert, won the “Sustainable Fashion Champion” award, 2021 by Drapers, a renowned business-to-business magazine and website covering the fashion retail sector. This award was announced on 10th March 2021.
The fashion industry’s efforts to become more sustainable were in danger of derailment during the coronavirus pandemic. However, recognizing that sustainability is a business imperative, many brands and retailers continued to invest in cleaning up their supply chains and introducing new models of working, despite the unprecedented trading conditions. Covid-19 has presented unforeseen challenges for the fashion industry, but it has also given us all an opportunity to build back better. Forward-thinking fashion businesses know change is not optional, and are embracing their responsibilities and ability to make a difference.
The Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards recognise the strides that are being made in reducing the industry’s environmental impact and creating fairer working conditions across the supply chain.
Other winners of the award are, Allbirds under “Best Carbon Footprint Initiative” category, Chambray & Co under “Best Circularity Initiative”, Sheep Inc under “Best Supply Chain Initiative”, FibreTrace under “Best Use of Technology For Good”, Raeburn under “Brand of the Year”, PrimaLoft and PrimaLoft Bio under “Sustainable Textile Innovation” category. Also, Joao Maraschin of the London College of Fashion won the Graduate award, Superdry won the Positive Change award and Hirestreet won the Recommerce award.
