Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 to be amended within March 2023

Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 to be amended within March 2023Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 will be amended, and the government has reorganized a working committee to produce initial suggestions by September. The 12-member working group was reorganized by the labor ministry on Sunday through a gazette statement stating that additional members could be appointed if necessary.

The group is made up of a total of six government representatives, three from owners’ associations, and three from labor unions. The working committee has been tasked by the ministry with creating draft labor law revisions and submitting them to the amendment committee by September 30.

The administration committed to amending the labor laws in accordance with ILO norms by March 2023 to its international stakeholders, notably the International Labor Organization and the European Union.

The working committee would prepare the initial draft suggestions by analyzing the submissions the labour ministry had received from stakeholders, including trade unions, owners’ organisations, and rights groups, according to the gazette statement.

Several government, employer, and worker organizations had submitted proposals to the labor ministry as of July 7. The Tripartite Labour Law Review Committee would receive the amendment recommendations from the working committee for further consideration.

The national Tripartite Consultative Committee will be able to discuss the BLA, 2006 revisions when the working committee and the TLRC have finished their work, according to ministry officials.
