An open forum among Textile Engineers-Entrepreneurs on “Present Business Challenges & Possible Solutions” was held in a Hotel in Dhaka on 03rd March 2024. Engr. Md. Mozaffar Hossain, Former MP; and Managing Director, SIM Group was the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Managing Director of Hams Group and President of ITET. Engr. Mohammad Salim Reza, Sr. Vice President of ITET, gave the introductory speech.
Engr. Saiful Islam, Managing Director of Essential Clothing Ltd presented 5 major critical challenges the industry currently facing. These included the skills gap and trust issues among employees & employers; rising operational costs but declining selling prices; unreliable utilities & high energy costs; challenges and difficulties from Govt agencies like – Customs, VAT, Income tax, DOE, DIFE, BERC, Gonopurto, Fire Defence, etc; and challenges and difficulties from non-Govt agencies like- RSC, trade unions, banks, insurances, consultants & vendors. Through facilitated breakout sessions, attendees brainstormed potential solutions and shared valuable insights.

Textile Engineers-Entrepreneurs play a significant role in Bangladesh’s RMG & textile industry. More than 40 textile engineers are the Owner or Managing Director in their companies. Apart from that, another 50+ textile engineers are working in various industries as CEOs, Executive Directors, or other entrepreneurial positions. Together, they are accountable for more than 3.0 billion USD in annual exports.
