Greening the Denim Industry: TENCEL™, Advance Denim, and Officina+39 Join Forces for Sustainable Fashion

The fashion industry, always under scrutiny for its environmental impact, is undergoing a transformative change, and the spotlight is on denim. Known for its resource-intensive practices, denim production has long relied on vast amounts of water and virgin cotton, leading to ecological challenges. However, a groundbreaking collaboration between fiber manufacturer Lenzing, fabric mill Advance Denim, and Italian chemical firm Officina+39 is set to revolutionize the denim landscape.

Greening the Denim Industry: TENCEL™, Advance Denim, and Officina+39 Join Forces for Sustainable Fashion

Driven by the urgent need for sustainable alternatives, this innovative partnership introduces a curated collection of zero cotton fabrics for denim garments. Embracing the remarkable properties of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, these fabrics offer a promising solution to address the ecological toll of conventional denim production. TENCEL™ Lyocell is a man-made cellulosic fiber known for its low environmental impact, making it an ideal candidate for driving eco-efficiency in the denim industry.

The cutting-edge fabrics, a result of this collaboration, possess a natural softness and excel in moisture regulation due to the inherent properties of TENCEL™ Lyocell. Moreover, they have a unique advantage – they are laser-sensitive, allowing for precision customization. The combination of these fibers with Officina+39’s eco-efficient bleach treatment and ‘Aqualess’ wash process significantly reduces water consumption, a crucial step towards sustainability, as water-intensive processes have been a bane for the fashion industry.

The collection will be unveiled at the prestigious Kingpins event in New York, and its debut promises to inspire new design possibilities and aesthetics for denim brands. Consumers can expect an authentic vintage look and feel while embracing eco-efficiency, a crucial aspect that modern consumers increasingly demand.

This collaboration comes at a time when the demand for sustainable fabrics is skyrocketing. Traditional cotton production is witnessing stagnation, leading to the rise of alternative fibers like TENCEL™. By 2025, wood pulp fibers, including TENCEL™, are projected to account for around 7% of global textile fiber production, reflecting a significant shift towards eco-friendly options.

Notably, this isn’t the first endeavor by Lenzing to champion sustainable denim. The company previously introduced ‘Zero Cotton’ and ‘Zero Virgin Cotton’ fabric collections, incorporating recycled cotton, an initiative that garnered immense success and widespread acceptance from global partners. These concepts are no longer confined to niche markets; they are now embraced on a broader scale, signaling the industry’s commitment to a more sustainable future.

In a world where environmental consciousness is crucial, collaborative efforts between value chain partners are essential. Lenzing’s role in bridging the gap between mill and brand partners is instrumental in ensuring that sustainable ideas reach consumers and create a meaningful impact on the industry.

The path to eco-efficient denim is now clearer than ever, with TENCEL™, Advance Denim, and Officina+39 spearheading the charge. As the denim and textile sector undergoes this transformative change, the future looks promising, with sustainability at the forefront of the industry’s mission.
