PRIMARK Released Sustainable Jeans Collection from Plastics Waste

PRIMARK Released Sustainable Jeans Collection from Plastics WastePrimark has recently released a new range of skinny jeans that is made from discarded plastic, in partnership with material innovators Unifi, Inc and its Repreve Our Ocean fiber, as a part of the Primark Cares’ range.

“We are so excited to collaborate with a partner as trusted and recognized in its field as Repreve for this, our latest denim launch. We know that working with new partners to increase our use of innovative recycled materials plays a big role in helping us to expand the choice of fashion and products under our Primark Cares label,” said Director of Primark Cares, Lynne Walker, “This is all part of our goal to help our customers make more sustainable choices, at a price they can afford. Customers should expect lots more to come from Primark Cares in the next few months.”

The skinny jeans collection is a sustainable fashion practice with an affordable price tag. The jeans have a flattering high waist fit with a let-down hem. They feature a blend of a unique recycled fabric made from plastic bottles, which have been collected from land within 50 km of the coastline, one of the biggest sources of plastic pollution in the oceans. They are available in two classic color-washes, light-blue and mid-blue, in UK sizes 4-20.

The jeans manufacturing process takes place in 5 steps process starting from collecting the plastic, then grounding the waste material, melting the remains into the liquid polymer and spun to make the REPREVE fiber, processed into yarn, and then made into the jeans. The Primark x Repreve Our Ocean jeans are made using 33% Repreve Our Ocean polyester, which is then blended with 58% cotton, 7% viscose & 2% elastane to create a comfortable stretch fit.
