Denim Focus: Can you share your insights on the global denim industry and current trends?

Qazi Shamveel: Demand is shifting towards comfort, stretch, and rigid fabrics in the U.S. and Europe. However, Pakistani suppliers face challenges in rigid fabric production due to higher costs, even when using open-end fibers. Pakistan is best known for stretch fabrics, and we are seeing some advantages with the new government. At Naveena, we focus on innovation. For Spring/Summer 2026, we are introducing Aerosoft technology, a 100% rigid fabric without chemicals that offers the comfort of non-denim fabrics. After COVID, consumer preferences changed, favoring non-denim, relaxed styles. Our goal is to merge denim fashion with that level of comfort. Globally, we expect a more transparent market direction by March as brands and buyers finalize orders. Spring/Summer typically sees lower denim sales than autumn, but trends are evolving. European buyers now prefer high-slub fabrics, similar to U.S. markets, and brands like Zara TRF and Tropical demand extreme slub designs. Bangladesh also excels in rigid fabric production, maintaining its competitive edge.

Denim Focus: How has the new government impacted business, and what challenges did you face previously?

Qazi Shamveel: The new government has strengthened business ties with Pakistan, increasing Pakistani product imports in Bangladesh, including textiles. A key improvement is the restoration of direct shipping routes, reducing lead times from over 30 days to just 16 days, a significant advantage for Pakistani mills. Additionally, visa processes have become more manageable, facilitating business expansion.

Denim Focus: How can Naveena Denim help Bangladesh’s RMG sector reduce production costs and boost exports?

Qazi Shamveel: Innovation is our core strength. While focusing on premium, high-quality fabrics, we are adapting our strategy to include commercially viable options to stay competitive. Bangladesh remains the global denim hub due to its unmatched manufacturing infrastructure. Although some brands are considering shifting to Egypt and Pakistan, they are returning because no other country offers Bangladesh’s production capacity. However, Bangladesh must strengthen its fabric production to remain competitive.

Denim Focus: Do you have plans to set up a manufacturing plant in Bangladesh?

Qazi Shamveel: We have no plans to establish a plant in Bangladesh. While some Pakistani companies like Soorty have successfully set up garment factories, the market’s uncertainty makes such investments risky. We will reassess by March once Spring/Summer 2026 orders give us a clearer market outlook. Denim production is more complex than non-denim production, requiring strong technical expertise. Selling denim fabric is more challenging, as pricing is highly competitive. We focus on premium fabrics, including hemp, super-soft, 100% stretch, and sustainable textiles. However, to expand in Bangladesh, we must also compete in the commercial segment, where price is crucial.

Denim Focus: What is your expansion strategy for the Bangladesh market?

Qazi Shamveel: We are expanding our office to grow our presence in Bangladesh. Our Managing Director, Umer Tata, visited Bangladesh for the first time this January. After witnessing the market’s potential, he recommended increasing our volumes and investments here. Bangladesh’s market strength is unparalleled, and we aim to enhance our partnerships with leading manufacturers like ABA Group, Tusuka, and FGS Fashion Globe Group.
