A strong, durable cotton fabric in which the weft passes under two or more warp threads is familiar as Denim Fabric. Nowadays denim is 100% cotton twill weave woven. We may consider denim as one of the oldest fabric in the world. But as of being unique apparel preferred by all age groups and due to it’s popularity, it has gone through a lot of improvement in the last few decades. Noticeable research work has developed denim fabrics with a lot of variation during recent years and their properties as well as sustainability has been improvised. Denim is now a demandable fabric all around but it has not been popular overnight. Even its origin name was not Denim. It has a long story with a lot of historical events.
Serge de Nimes refers to a particular type of fabric which was only produced in Nimes, a town of France. Over time this warp faced cotton weave style become popular throughout the world and named to be Denim. Once upon a time, it was used as sailcloth but now these are often used in suits, sportswear, raincoats, jackets, and working clothing. It’s been used to create everything from canvas to bags, and many expect its durability and affordability will make it a popular choice among street artists and fashionistas for years to come. There are denim helmets, denim wedding dresses, coats for pets, sarees, curtains, car seat cover, mobile case, insulation, hats, sneakers, belts, handbags and a lot of different forms that denim can take. Making clothes, accessories, furniture’s, vehicles and we can’t even think how many more things can be produced from denim fabrics. Denim fabrics are available with different color but the most popular one is indigo denim. Different types of fabric can be used for different purposes as of their comfort and utilization.
There are a lot of different types of Denim fabric, Such as Raw Denim, Stretch Denim, Sanforized Denim, Colored Denim, Waxed Reverse Denim, Selvage Denim or Self-Edge Denim, Poly Denim, Crushed Denim Open-End Denim, Ring/Ring Denim, Acid Wash Denim and also there are Bull Denim, Stone wash denim, Ecru denim, Printed denim, Reserve denim, etc. and a lot of different types of Jeans.
In 1939, WWII broke out and denim jeans and jackets become popular amongst the soldiers and they wore jeans and rode motorbikes around the U.S. This rebellion attracted the attention of the American consumers. Jeans were worn by everyone , rich and poor which made a social bridge. This sturdy cloth that didn’t need ironing and after aging even looked better. Denim jeans are the ultimate example of form following function. Their strength, versatility, durability and comfort are what have made them the most popular item of clothing ever. They can be worn in almost any environment and used for any activity.

There are bottom wear for men as different types of jeans, for women it can be jeans, skirt, ruffle skirt, cocktail dress, patchwork and a lot of other dresses. There are top wear for men and women as shirt, denim jacket, coat, vest, jump suit, formal dress and other things.
In daily life we use a lot of different accessories to make our life easier where denim has produced backpack, tote bag, purses, place mates, earrings, handbags, pillows, bow, button, jewelries, bracelets. In near future we will get more of other accessories with different styles. In terms of furnitures there are chair, sofa, couch, recliner, sectional, ottoman, covers and different other products. Also there are natural, recycled and combination denim products. On different geographic area the variety of denim products changes with people and their needs.
With the growing fashion and needs of people, a lot of denim products are being produced also denim fabrics are evolving. Annually about 15 billion meters of denim fabrics are produced globally to manufacture about 10billion items of clothing. The global denim market was valued at $ 56,178.1 million on 2017 and is expected to experience an annual growth rate of 5.8% during 2018-2013. The industrial countries that produce the most denim are China, Turkey, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Maxico and Brazil.
That’s really outstanding evolution of growing textile revolution that introduced us with Denim products. With the growing technology and new ideas the uses of denim fabrics are growing remarkably. Mixed Denim product added a new dimension to this versatile fiber. We can use denim fabric as of our need in almost every section of life. It’s our ideas that can make Denim fabrics more versatile than ever. It is beyond questioning that future textile industry will have to deal a lot with Denim.
