Additionally, they have created over 30,000 companies that pertain to the textile industry, which makes it one of the highest employers in Brazil. And this is for a country that only really became an industry influence in early 2000. Brazil is now the 4th largest exporter of cotton. The high demand for cotton has allowed Brazil to grow slowly and steadily. According to the Brazilian Association of Textile and Apparel Industries, the South American nation has produced 2001000 tons worth of textiles – the fifth biggest global manufacturer behind China, India, USA, and Pakistan. But this incredible amount of fabric makes up just 2.4% of the global textile production, compared to a whopping 50% from China. As Brazil does not have the changing seasons of the United States. So, Brazil can supply cotton during the off-season when the US cannot. It makes a positive impact for Brazil. Also Brazil is known for Summer Clothing. They also have global brands for fashion. The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) reported that the sales from rope exports accounted for USD 1 million, while beachwear, textile yarns, and inner garments also rose. Currently, the Arab countries are some of Brazil’s largest markets for textile and apparel exports, particularly for segments such as party wear, children’s wear, and beachwear. Based on ABIT’s latest data, the United Arab Emirates had the highest imports of Brazilian textiles and clothing during this period, followed by Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Lebanon. Brazil is one of the significant trading partners of Bangladesh. The bilateral trade between the two countries improved significantly. As per latest Import Data of 2021, Bangladesh imported goods worth $93.89 Billion US Dollars. Bangladesh’s shipments record suggests that it made a total of 4351109 shipments in 2021. Bangladesh was ranked 50th on the list of the world’s top importers. According to Bangladesh Import Statistics, Bangladesh’s top import commodities in 2021 were Cotton (4.61%).

Bangladesh is now the 2nd largest apparel importer for Brazil with 8.59% shares of total apparel imports of Brazil. In 2021, Brazil’s import from Bangladesh was 98.70 million dollars whereas their global import was 1.14 billion dollars. Though, China is the top clothing import source of Brazil with 47.71% share. Brazil’s import from China was 547.98 million dollars in 2021.

The export of Bangladesh to Brazil in last 5 years is very impactful. As per the data of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), during the fiscal year 2016-17, Bangladesh exported about 200 million dollars’ worth of apparel to Brazil. In 2017-18 it grew about 58.68% and reached to more than 300 million. In 2017-18 it grew a little bit. But due to Covid, the exports have declined by more than 33% in the last two consecutive fiscal years. And during FY 2020-21, Bangladesh’s export to Brazil declined to 70.73 million dollars whereas the exports of knitwear and woven were worth 35.76 million and 34.97 million dollars respectively. The shares of Bangladesh in these days are comparatively less due to pandemic. Bangladesh has a great potential to export items to Brazil as they have high demands for Bangladeshi products.
