Omoto Launches Authentic Made-in-Japan Denim Brand

Omoto, a new premium denim brand founded by industry veteran Hiroki Kishimoto, has officially entered the global denim market with a focus on authentic Japanese craftsmanship. Produced entirely in Kojima, Okayama—widely regarded as the heart of Japanese denim—Omoto’s debut collection features three classic five-pocket fits: slim, straight, and loose.

The brand partners with Japan’s renowned Collect mill to develop its selvedge denim, offering 13.5oz and 15.5oz fabrics woven on more than 50-year-old shuttle looms. Made from a blend of U.S. Memphis cotton and Zimbabwean cotton, the unsanforized denim retains natural cotton hairs, delivering rich texture and distinctive aging over time.

Omoto made its official debut at the Union Showroom in Berlin in January, where the brand introduced its collection to international retailers and secured initial orders. Notably, the showcased samples were hand-cut by Kishimoto himself, underscoring the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and detail.

Each pair of Omoto jeans features thoughtful design elements, including herringbone pocket bags and a unique “laundry record” tag that allows wearers to track washes and repairs—serving as a denim passport for long-term ownership.

Looking ahead, Omoto is set to open its flagship store in early March on Kojima Street, Japan’s iconic denim destination, complete with a traditional Japanese garden. The brand will also roll out to select international retailers from the end of March, marking its expansion into the global market.
